Tread
Corinne is a friend of my sister’s and had contacted me about doing the cover to a short book of poems and memoirs. She requested an african american womans’ legs with no upper body “treading’ underwater beneath a pink inner tube with white polka dots. I quickly got to work by sketching a variety of legs to choose from in order to better establish what she had envisioned. Once we had settled on a pair of legs we began narrowing down a proper font for the title. I chose to add some abstract designs in the background that resembled water and before I knew it I had illustrated my first book cover for hire. The book was published in 2018 with positive feedback and featured for sale at a contemporary art gallery in Pittsburgh called The Mattess Factory.
